Hibbing Celebrates Nobel Laureate Bob Dylan
Nobel Prize Reception to be held at the Historic Androy Hotel in Hibbing, MN
The Hibbing Dylan Project and the Hibbing Arts Council have
partnered to host a Nobel Prize reception and fundraiser to honor Laureate
Bob Dylan on the evening of December 10, 2016, at the Historic Androy
Hotel in downtown Hibbing. Across the world on the same evening, the Nobel
Prize Committee will be officially awarding the Hibbing, Minnesota, native
the Nobel Prize in Literature “for having created new poetic expressions
within the great American song tradition.”
The purpose of this fundraiser is to secure funds to create a public work of art
to commemorate Bob Dylan and to create an educational component which
will inspire students and recognize Bob Dylan's contributions to literature,
music and art.
Retired history teacher and organizer Craig Hattam said, “Bob Dylan is
well known around the world, and now he has been awarded a Nobel Prize in
Literature. His musical career has spanned over five decades and before
that he was a student here, in this high school. It’s incredible. It’s
inspiring. And I feel that we should recognize him for the historical
impact he has had around the globe and in our community.”
The cocktail and hors d’oeuvres event on will begin at 5 pm and will
feature Cowboy Angel Blue and other local artists covering Bob Dylan’s songs.
The fully tax-deductible tickets are $25 and will be available at the
American Bank, Custom Lettering, {moxie}, and Security State Bank, all
located in downtown Hibbing. Will Call tickets are also available and can
be reserved by sending payment to The Hibbing Arts Council, PO Box 61,
