Tuesday night was the third time I have seen Dylan at this historic venue.
Elvis played a breakout show on the Louisiana Hayride radio program back
in 1954 at the Municipal. Last time through town, Bob even mentioned "you
can still feel his presence, the REAL Elvis that is!" The place has a
great vibe with dark blonde woods and soft lighting and by a quarter till
eight a buzz of excitement was filling the room. Anton Fig's crashing drum
sets a good tempo to start a show. For me personally when Dylan leaned
over to the seated microphone and began with 'Black Rider, Black Rider" is
the moment that his voice took me over. He altered Rubicon and I've Made
Up My Mind to where I was hearing them anew it seemed. With Dylan rising
to stand and sing and then sitting again, he began to look like a hooded
monk making hypnotic spiritual incantations. The voice at times was one of
Dylan's soft breathy deliveries that lilted upwards with his phrasing and
cadence. Somewhere in the middle of the show, the audience applause gushed
forward at the end of the song. He had us in the palm of his hand. Doug
Lancio's guitar picking jumped out at me and the drums were awesome. Great
show!
