It's a long trip from Sydney, Australia to Raleigh, NC! I just make the
show but it's worth it! The last time I saw Bob was 4 March 2022 in
Tucson. Only one song from that night remains in tonight's set list -
Gotta Serve Sonebody - albeit now in a different lyrical and musical form.
Tonight's set list is the same 17 songs as Charlotte the night before
minus the band intros. The venue is pretty full - capacity is 20,000 - I
get a nice spot at the front of the lawn - the covered seats in front of
us. It's hot - my taxi driver after the concert says it was 107 today in
Raleigh! I arrive just before Bob starts and leave during Willie's set as
the lightening gets going. The sound is fantastic and the crowd attentive
so this is a highly enjoyable experience. There's a screen with a long
shot of the band but we all know where Bob is! Bob starts at 810 pm with a
thumping Gotta Serve Somebody and new lyrics. The covers really suit his
current style and To Ramona is great to here - our daughter is named
Ramona. All along the watchtower is greeted enthusiastically and is
enjoyable. My young neighbours discuss how this wasn't written by Jimi
Hendrix! Luckily Bob doesn't play Make you feel my love tonight.
Desolation Row is stunning and such a delight to hear so long after its
release. Rainy day women is always fun and the show finishes with Don't
think twice - much changed to when I heard it performed outdoors at
Phoenix in 1999 during the Paul Simon concerts. Bob leaves the stage at
9.17 pm. The concert was so worth the trip! Hopefully Bob will make a tour
to Australia - he was last in town in 2018. In the meantime I'm on a
Greyhound bus to Petersburg where I'm writing this and to hopefully
connect with two trains to see the Outlaw Music Festival one more time
this trip in Virginia Beach. Thanks again Bob and band! May you stay
forever young.
